Two Barclay’s Formula Paragraphs Sept 25

  1. Gee he talks about how is there is a stressful development of the primary discourse can lead, to not equirering or not fully equirering a dominant discourse. in definition of dominant discourse he says “ dominant discourses are secondary discourses the mastery or which, at a particular place and time, brings with it the potential acquisition of social goods”(Gee 8).  This is the definition of dominant discourse which shows that if your primary discourse was a certain way it can have a cause and effect scenario on your dominant discourse. This in its own way can develope different or or even more difficult dominant discourses. By taking the secondary discourse and changing it through the primary one might ask if you could do the same, but in revered rolls.
  2. You can take your Secondary discourse from a positive standpoint and overthrow or minutely change your primary discourse. Doing this could give you a better primary discourse if you life which can get you into a higher status in the mainstream of society. Gee states that “unfortunately, many middle-class mainstreams status-giving discourses often do stress superficial features of language”(Gee 11). This is telling us that status giving discourse stress us in a way that we should not be stressed. This is the stress that if we take positively then it could change your primary discourse to better benefit you in the socialization of society and bump up in stature of middle class to higher class.
